Emilia News

The news broke yesterday that Lou Pearlman, Backstreet Boys first manager (as well as *N Sync, LFO, and O-Town), passed away at the age of 62 while he was still in jail. Lou as many know was sentenced to 25 years in prison for running a half-billion-dollar Ponzi scheme. One of the biggest Ponzi schemes in history. Billboard.com broke the news of his death.

You’re probably wondering why am I posting this? He screwed BSB over and took money from them. Well, I’ve been browsing Twitter and there seems to be mix feelings on this. Not just from fans, but even from members of the groups Lou started. Lance Bass, Chris Kirkpatrick (*N Sync), Erik- Michael Estrada, Jacob Underwood (O-Town), Ashley Parker Angel (former O-Town) and LFO have all commented on Twitter. We can dislike Lou for all the things he’s done not only to the Boys, but to other music groups, and to the people he stole money from in his Ponzi scheme. I know we as fans never liked him after Brian initiated the lawsuit against him back in 1998 and we learned about what he’s done to them. Yet, when you think about this Lou is the one that brought the Boys together. Without him we wouldn’t be fans of a group called the Backstreet Boys. We may have never known who AJ, Nick, Howie, Kevin and Brian are. They may not even be in the music business. Would they have met each other? Maybe. We know the story that AJ, Nick and Howie sometimes attended the same auditions so they knew of each other, but what about Kevin and Brian? They probably would have never met them if it weren’t for the ad Kevin saw about the group and Kevin inviting Brian. You never know where life will take you to. Things maybe a lot different right now if Lou didn’t have the idea to start his own music group. There would be no Backstreet Boys, *N Sync, O-Town or any group Lou helped create and launch. You can hate him for what he’s done, but we can’t forget that he gave our Boys the chance to fulfill their dreams.

At the moment only AJ spoke about Lou on Twitter and Facebook. Should the other Boys comment on this I’ll update the post. Howie also wrote about Lou on Twitter.
