Backstreet Boys (USA Debut)

On August 12, 1997 the Backstreet Boys released their first US self-titled debut album. Which included a mixture of songs from their very first album and their second album, Backstreet’s Back.

The original release of the album did not include the song “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)”. Later in a 1998 re-release of the album the track was included once seeing that the song gained popularity in Europe and other countries. Back in 1995 the guys promoted and released “We’ve Got It Goin’ On”, but the song failed to pick up on radio and only landed at 69 on the Billboard 100 chart.

The CD version of the album was released as a enhanced CD. Which included bonus footage that could only be viewed on your computer. The enhanced video included the following.

A remix of the song Hey Mr. DJ (Keep Playin’ This Song) was used on the soundtrack for the TV show Sabrina The Teenage Witch.

SALES/CERTIFICATIONS
Prior to release 500,000 copies of the album were shipped making it Gold. But the album only managed to sell 40,000 copies in the first week and debut on the Billboard 200 at #29. The week after the album jumped 14 spots to 15. The album has sold over 14 million copies in the US. Going diamond 4x for sales of over 10 million. The album peaked at #4 on the Billboard 200 charts.

As of July 1, 2012, the album is the Seventeenth best selling album in the US of the SoundScan era with 10.12 million copies sold.
