Backstreet Boys are back on Billboard’s Pop Songs airplay chart, as “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” debuts at No. 32 on the list dated June 2.

The band earns its first entry on the ranking since 2007, when “Inconsolable” reached No. 34 that October.

BSB’s new hit is its 19th overall on Pop Songs, dating to its first, the No. 35-peaking “We’ve Got It Goin’ On,” in November 1995. The group extends its span of appearing on Pop Songs to a record 22 years and six months, narrowly passing Madonna’s stretch of 22 years and four months, from 1992 to 2015.

The Pop Songs chart, which began in 1992 (and in 2017 celebrated its 25th anniversary), measures total weekly plays, as tabulated by Nielsen Music, among its reporting panel of 158 mainstream top 40 stations.

Backstreet Boys boast nine Pop Songs top 10s, including the No. 1s “I Want It That Way” (for two weeks in 1999) and “Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely” (one week in 2000). The band also reached No. 2 with “Quit Playing Games (With My Heart)” in 1997 and No. 3 with “As Long as You Love Me” in 1998.

The new single follows BSB’s last album, In a World Like This, which debuted and peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard 200, marking the group’s ninth top 10 (encompassing its entire output). The act has sold 31.3 million albums to date in the U.S., the 24th-best total among all artists since Nielsen Music began tracking sales in 1991.

All charts will update on Billboard.com Wednesday (May 30).

“Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” by Backstreet Boys has been out for a week and many articles and reviews for the track are quite postive! Read some of them below.

Backstreet’s back with a new single for the first time since 2013.

The Backstreet Boys unveiled their latest track, “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart,” Wednesday in anticipation of their upcoming tenth studio album. And it’s a shimmering pop jam about the anxieties of courtship.

PAPER MAG
As written yesterday, the Backstreet Boys are forever. “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” is peak BSB and perhaps not on accident, sounds like it could’ve come out in the early aughts and still hit. That means something about this track, which features the original lineup crooning over a beat that is 2018 meets pop’s best tropes (the bombastic drum-heavy production and the sticky, soaring refrain has me dreaming up full-out boy-band choreography whether I want to or not) — is not necessarily time-stamped. In the case of the enduring BSB, and their fans who’ve grown up with them, it’s a really good thing.

BILLBOARD
A quarter century into their career, the Backstreet Boys have a legacy that includes a Las Vegas residency, 17 Billboard Hot 100 hits, and millions of albums sold worldwide.

Does that mean they’re done making hits? Absolutely not — and they’ve made that very clear with their first single in five years, “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart,” which surged to No. 1 on the real-time iTunes chart hours after its release on Thursday morning (May 17).

The funky, densely produced jam shows the evolution the Backstreet Boys (Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, Brian Littrell, AJ McLean and Kevin Richardson) have made from ‘90s staple to pop mainstays more than two decades into their career. Yet, it stays true to their harmony-driven beginnings, all of which they kept in mind while on the hunt for the perfect comeback track.
